Core Interest

There were quite a few areas that provided the basis for launching my career as an Instructional Designer. I found that courses such as: Analysing Human Performance, Programme Evaluation & Course Assessment Methods and Needs Assessment for Learning Performance reinforced what I experienced as a programmes manager.

As the programme manager at the Anguilla Red Cross, very often, I am responsible for needs assessments, programme evaluation and aspects of volunteer management. Therefore, the courses mentioned above exposed me to additional tools that I was able to add to my current inventory. For example, before taking the course, skills and knowledge were the main factors I looked at regarding performance improvement. However, there are other factors besides skills and knowledge, such as the environment, personal attributes, organisation culture and compensation.

Equally, the Needs Assessment course was helpful in the recent ARC Strategy 2021 development. I encouraged the consultants to dig a bit deeper and produce a cause analysis of the problems identified as the organisation has been battling with them for years but seems to have trouble resolving them.
